The “Wonky Business” party in the Blemish Shared World gathered in the early morning and got their weapons and horses back. Floss the thief came with his mule, and got promptly sent off again to borrow some armor from somewhere. The cleric Sir Galehir took a more backgroundish role due to his player being absent, but newly joined Corga the tough dwarven lady and Eldric Strongheart, a sellsword from the city; for all of them, like for Aita, Delf and Lisbeth, this mission was a way to prove to Lord Maldrak of Oakhaven that they were useful and interesting, and that he should trust them.
Troop movement
They rode out south as surprisingly large numbers of armed militiamen were streaming toward the town hall and main square, for some reason. The party left the town and rode south, and had a random encounter on the way, to Aita’s annoyance (as he wanted to get this mission done and over with fast) : a couple of kobolds some ways off.
Delf went sneaking and found their tracks: likely a handful of scouts.
The party decided to forget about them and move on.
Some time before noon they smelled the lake they had heard about and found the tower. Complete with birds nesting in it and flying out over the lake, as “One-Eye” had said it would be. The team left the horses in a copse with Floss and the cleric and ventured forward to inspect the tower. They circled around it looking for tracks and signs of recent traffic, or bones, or even, if possible, the corpse or bones of the wizard who fell off the tower back when.
Enter the tower
They even found some bones but it was hard to tell whose and where they came from, and it was not a complete skeleton. However, they heard mournful songs from inside, and then the archers were attacked by one of the birds, a huge specimen. However, they managed to evade it and hide behind the tower, and it flew off.
At long last the party dared enter the main hall of the tower, and saw remains of dead people, some trinkets, and two exits from here. They knocked at all the walls for secrets and even found a hidden stash of treasure. Finally they had to dare pushing forward, and discovered a new room with some sort of curtain between the entrance hall and that smaller, new room, with another exit. The curtain looked valuable so they took it down to take with them.
First Blood
And then they met four weird blue streaks flying through the air. They attacked and smacked one of the blue streaks out of the sky. Following that it came to a battle, during which the dwarf accidentally shot one of the archers in the back, and Delf the Thief suffered a cut from one of the blue-streak-attacks. Otherwise though the party did well and won the day.
However, at this point they felt that given their wounds they should retreat and rest and heal. There was even talk of returning back home to Oakhaven, but on the other hand, returning wounded after just one explored room did not sound like it would earn them much respect from Lord Maldrak. So they stayed at camp and watch the tower from the outside. They did that, resting for one full day and allowing for an extra day of rest for the archer.
Making friends
During this time they noticed a goblin entering the tower, met him, got a good reaction from him and learned some interesting secrets about the tower, its layout, and its occupants. Also that the goblin belonged to a special group of goblins who targeted this tower in order to steal from it. Always only a little. It was some sort of test for them.
He also explained about different goblin factions in the area: he belonged to the smart, sophisticated ones, whereas their opponents were brutish and primitive, so the goblin told it.
And so the session ended with one toe dipped into the Sky Tower.
